Trashed WT's found in Dr.s' waiting room Friday. Do you trash literature you find?
by Wasanelder Once intook the magazines in the waiting room and dumped them in the trash.
was a great feeling.
to think many witnoids wont dare throw out the surplus magazines they have in stacks around the house is amazing.

The stuff I've seen was already nearly trashed: tracts in the apartment building foyer, magazines blowing around in the street. In each case, I put them out of their misery and put the litteratrash in its place... dumpster. -

Why are JW talks & publications never uplifting?
by thedepressedsoul ini was sitting at the meeting the other night and for the first time it hit, jw talks or magazines are never uplifting!
i rarely, if ever hear a talk or read a magazines and have it give nothing but praise to jehovahs servants or just praise jehovah and jesus throughout it.
they never just a read through the bible or just a bible story explained or told.

Here's a couple opinions I developed from working in the WT sausage factory:
There were plenty of times that the elders and speakers were told to be uplifting and encouraging. But most of the time it was things like, "Look what good things you've done before based on your faith and obedience... now do more!" "Listen as I tell you how miserable you would be if it weren't for your faith and obedience to WT and its teachings." "Yes we're imperfect and deserve destruction, but Jehovah loves us anyway and will save us... if we just do a little more." It's like a toxic, abusive relationship where we're beaten savagely, but keep coming back because they tell us they love us.
I think most of us relate to reading WT litteratrash and getting the feeling that everything we do and think is wrong, and there is so much more we need to do to be worthy of anything. But I've certainly encountered plenty of the WT leadership that read and hear the exact same stuff, but come away with the feeling that everything they do and think is right. I even told my parents that when I would read things Jesus said in the bible, I would feel like I have a lot to work on. But having known the GB, I reached the conclusion that these guys read the Bible and got the feeling, "Hey, I'm Jesus' brother. I can nibble a cracker and sip some wine, so I must be anointed. And since I'm anointed, everyone else should shut-up and listen to me!"
And I told my parents I wouldn't buy a car from any of the new GB members. Here we are, worried if we're worthy to survive and have the privilege to dig graves after armageddon. Meanwhile, these guys are completely unworried and fully confident that they will be whisked up to heaven to sit on golden thrones and decide who of the rest of us will live or die.
So the stuff that we read as JWs wasn't uplifting, but it is all very uplifting to the GB... who somehow manage to keep coming up with new interpretation of scripture that makes themselves even more important, all the freakin' time!

Thought I would introduce myself
by WateredDown ini have read the site with great interest over the last few weeks.
some interesting stuff thats for sure.. i have left the jehovah's witnesses (was almost going to say the 'truth') for some time now.
i was one of the lucky ones that was baptised then faded, no humiliating disfellowshipping but nonetheless was very hard to get myself out.

I got the feeling that ARS was a young adolescent who just intentionally came here to throw dirt, his intent wasn't for any real discussion or debate.
Finkelstein, are you pondering what I'm pondering? I think this riddle has been solved:

Welcome!
Isn't amazing how a person can simply ask a few questions and "life-long friends" and even "adoring spouses" absolutely turn on you like hungry wolves?
(Ecclesiastes 10:1) Dead flies are what cause the oil of the ointment maker to stink, to bubble forth. [So] a little foolishness does to one who is precious for wisdom and glory.
That pretty much summarizes my history with WT, stinking dead flies.

How do flood apologists explain these?
by marmot inspear points dating to thousands of years before the flood (or even adam's alleged creation, for that matter) found preserved in situ among mammoth bones in naco, arizona.. or the 14,000 year-old footprint of a child at a mammoth hunting camp unearthed in a bog in monte verde, chile:.
the kicker is that this isn't even the oldest evidence for human settlement of the americas.
since the wt loves to trot out frozen mammoth carcasses as "proof" that mammoths died in the flood, who were these mammoth eaters in north america?

Meaningful Study
by Awake at last ini never thought i would be commenting, let alone starting a new topic in the category of bible research and study.
anyone reading my comments on this site would have realised that i am the most unspiritual person to have ever stepped foot inside a kh.
yet for the first time in my life, on saturday night, i did some meaningful bible study/research, on my own without a wtbts publication in sight, except the nwt bible.

How did you find the Orgs way of studying? Effective or not effective?
It's the mental equivalent of "busy work". They call it "study", but it isn't really an intellectual activity. It's actually mind-numbing that allows for only one way of thinking. It's just a review of exactly what is printed right in front of you. No need to think, reason, or debate. No problem-solving skills required. And no room for opinion or originality! The only acceptable answer is right there like low-hanging fruit. Then when you say exactly what's in the paragraph, the conductor says, "Yes, very good! You're so smart and making such wonderful spiritual progress!"
So it's as effective as a cult gets!
For the sake of anyone that has forgotten what a WT "study" is like, here's a reminder:

kids aren't allowed at Bethel
Well, not for ordinary bethelites. But at Patterson, for example, there were bethelite attorneys like Mario Moreno that had a wife and kids in bethel housing, and Dr/Br. Schiller, and Sam Pate, for example. And there were some where the husband was a bethelite, but the wife wasn't.
That's where the Bethel Book of Angles came into play. If some had the right skills/education, all kinds of exceptions were made to the usual rules.
In this case, if they find someone with skills and kids, they'll try to get them to work remotely. They will gladly let them "pioneer" where they can count their hours as field service time. They might even kick in some money... but only as a last resort.
But I've been gone a while, so I don't know what the GB 2.0 has changed in the Book of Angles. Although the fact that they've kicked out so many old-timers is proof that they've left the rules of GB 1.0 behind.
